Jacoub And BFDIA 5

BFDIA 5. Probably one of the most anticipated episodes of BFDI ever. We were waiting for it ever since BFDIA 4 came out. Then it didn't come out. Then the HTwins announced that BFDIA would be longer than 24 minutes, meaning it would be the longest object show episode at the time. Then we were excited again, and since we were impatient, chose the "two minute segments" (they weren't two minutes) option on this video. So, with all of that waiting, all of those delays, all those choices, all of that stress on the HTwins, was that all worth it?

No. No, it was not.

Writing

The main problem I have with BFDIA 5 is that it's lacking that one trait that made the rest of the episodes so special: charm. BFDI, BFB, and even IDFB to a certain extent have the same exact premise as Total Drama Island, yet these shows are able to stand out because of their fast-paced, absurdist humor that you just can't do on TV. Yet here, because it needed to be 45 minutes for some reason, you can't really do that. Instead of making this less of an issue by, say, maybe developing the characters a bit more or adding some backstory to undeveloped ideas, they change the style of jokes here to make them less frequent and slower paced. This just makes BFDIA 5 forgettable when compared to the rest of the episodes. There's nothing the characters say here that stands out to me and is as quotable at some of the jokes in the other episodes were. I remember stuff like liar liar pants ablaze, deep fried breaths, cattle for dream island, pen island (no spaces, all caps), and that's just from the top of my head. What's so interesting about BFDIA 5? I guess "shut up and get in the van" would count but that's because it was the name of an episode, not because of the quote itself.
Shut up and BFDIA 5a: Get in the Van

Because there's really nothing interesting to watch here, it just makes BFDIA 5 feel like 45 minutes of nothing. And speaking of nothing...

Filler

BFDIA 5 is over 45 minutes. Out of those 45 minutes, 30 minutes of it is filler. Okay, maybe that's an exaggeration, but it sure does feel like that. Yes, you learned  how to make buildings that looked like they came from a SNES cartridge with a Super FX chip, cool. But is it really worth a 1 minute pan around that does nothing but cause boredom? And how about that obstacle course at the end of 5e? Wasn't that just a terrific and necessary edition to the episode that was so great it just HAD to be played twice? Oh, and how about that slow, 2 minute, Evil Leafy fade out in BFDIA 5a. What a hilarious joke that's so funny I don't even know if it was supposed to be a joke or not! Oh, and remember that hilarious joke where Puffball went AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA for 20 seconds straight? That was a hilarious joke that didn't hurt my ears at all! Man BFDIA 5 has so many funny moments is really cracks me up hahahhahahahahahahahah

Conclusion

This turned out to be more of a ramble than anything, and I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be convincing anyone to change their minds about this episode, but I just really wanted to write this because I hate this episode that much. And honestly, I think the HTwins did too. I mean, why else would they start a whole new season after this episode even when they almost finished BFDIA 6? Because they knew BFDIA wasn't going to go anywhere and that it wasn't going to be that good either. And, if you were to ask me, they made the right choice.

Also, and on a sort of unrelated note, thank goodness we got an actual season after the train-wreck that was BFDIA's scheduling. BFB is great you should all watch it.
